SPARTANBURG, SC – Wofford College baseball coach Todd Interdonato has announced that ten student-athletes have either signed National Letters of Intent or committed to join the Terriers in the fall of 2010. The group includes five infielders, four pitchers and a catcher from four different states.
The nine student-athletes include infielder Eric Brenk, infielder Julian Bridges, pitcher Nathan Bridges, infielder Stephen Cantrell, pitcher Tyler Durham, pitcher Eric Eck, catcher Luke Feisal, infielder Josh Hyman, pitcher Jesse Morris and infielder Steve Smoak.
“We are excited to have these ten young men join the Wofford Baseball family,” said head coach Todd Interdonato. “Our staff, with Dusty Blake as our recruiting coordinator, have work tirelessly to locate and recruit players our staff, alumni, and community can not only be proud of for their baseball ability, but for the contributions they will make on campus as true student-athletes. Wofford has always had a distinguished academic reputation attracting the best students from around the country. This is a special group of men we have been able to add into the fold and we look forward to them coming to campus in September.”
Eric Brenk is a 6-3, 200 pound infielder from Concord, North Carolina who has started for four seasons at shortstop for Concord High School. As a sophomore, he led the team with a .475 batting average and was 5-1 on the mound with a 2.10 ERA. During his junior season, he hit .500 to earn team MVP honors and SPC All-Conference honors for the second straight season. He also played quarterback for two seasons on the football team and played one season of basketball.
Julian Bridges is a 5-11, 170 pound infielder from Shelby, N.C. At Shelby High School, he earned All-Conference honors in 2009 at shortstop.
Nathan Bridges is a 6-3, 175 pound right handed pitcher from Greenwood, S.C. He is a three-year letterman at Greenwood High School and has played shortstop and first base in addition to pitching. As a junior, he had 23 hits and ten RBIs in 22 games played in addition to a 4-1 record on the mound with a 3.13 ERA in 38 innings pitched. He also played forward on the basketball team, finishing second in the region as a junior.
Stephen Cantrell is a 5-11, 160 pound infielder from Chesnee, S.C. He has started all four years at Chesnee High School, winning the Upper State Championship in 2009. As a sophomore led the team in on-base percentage and he was the team leader in runs scored as a junior along with earning the team’s best defensive player award. He also played for two seasons with the Carolina Warriors, winning a state championship and a National Wood Bat Championship.
Tyler Durham is a 6-0, 185 pound right handed pitcher from Frisco, Texas. At Liberty High School, he entered his senior season with a school record 194 strikeouts. A three-year letterman, his overall record is 16-5 with a 2.49 ERA. At third base, he has a .379 batting average with 29 RBIs. As a junior, he had 92 strikeouts, which ranked fourth in the state of Texas. He has twice earned All-District honors.
Eric Eck is a 6-5, 180 pound right handed pitcher from Buford, Georgia. A three-year letterman at Buford High School, he is 3-0 with a 1.24 ERA so far in his senior season.
Luke Feisal is a 5-11, 177 pound catcher from Greenville, S.C. He is a three-year letterman at Greenville High School and earned All-Region honors as a junior. In 2009 he had a .344 batting average with 26 RBIs, while he had a .329 batting average with 14 RBIs as a sophomore. He was named Greenville High School Most Valuable Defensive Player in both 2008 and 2009. He also earned 2009 Rawlings/Perfect Game All-American honorable mention honors.
Josh Hyman is a 5-11, 175 pound infielder from Woodruff, S.C. A five-year letterman in baseball at primarily third base, he has a .390 batting average along with 30 stolen bases. He also earned four letters in football and holds the school record for career receptions and receptions in a game. The team won three region championships as he played both wide receiver and defensive back. He added three letters in basketball at point guard.
Jesse Morris is a 5-10, 155 pound pitcher from Chapin, S.C. While at Chapin High School, he played both football and baseball. As a senior on the mound, he posted a 1.83 ERA in 61.3 innings pitched along with 57 strikeouts and nine wins.
Steve Smoak is a 5-9, 175 pound infielder from Woodstock, Georgia. A three-year letterman at Etowah High School, he played primarily at second base. As a junior, the team was 17-9 overall and won the region championship. He also played with the East Cobb Titans, winning the 2008 Fletcher Baseball World Series Championship.
The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to Wofford College and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
