SPARTANBURG, SC – The Wofford College football team opened spring practice on Tuesday night with the first of fifteen scheduled practices. The practice was pushed back one day due to storms in the area on Monday. On the first day, the Terriers worked out in shorts and helmets on the Gibbs Stadium field for approximately two hours.

“We are excited to be back out on the field,” said head coach Mike Ayers. “I think we return a really nice group of guys and lot of guys that helps us win a Southern Conference Championship. We have some holes that we must fill and there are some young kids that need to step up. We need to make sure that we reach that goal of trying to find the two-deep on both sides of the football. There should be a great deal of competition this spring. What we have to do is work really hard on the fundamentals and execute at a very high level every time we are on the field.”

Players new to the field for the Terriers this spring include safety Caleb Lucas, who joins the team as a transfer, and safety Bernard Williams, who originally signed with Wofford last spring but did not enroll until January.

On the injury front, DL Eric Eberhardt (knee), RB Cody Burris (knee) and S Rob Williams (knee) will miss spring practice due to injury. Players who will be limited include TE Joseph Inman (knee).

The Wofford coaching staff also sees some changes this spring. Shiel Wood moves to the secondary where he will be working with the safeties. Pete Kalinowski shifts to tight ends and Freddie Brown, Jr. will be joining the staff to work with the wide receivers. Brown will not begin his duties officially until the summer, however will be at most practices this spring.

Wofford will hold the first of two scrimmages on Saturday, March 12 at 10:00 am. The second scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, also at 10:00 am. In each scrimmage, the Terriers will run 80 to 100 scripted plays.
