Dorsey Sets School Record as Terriers Sweep Opening Day Matches

EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. -- Led by Bekah Dorsey’s recording breaking performance in the second match of the SIU-Edwardsville Tournament, the Terriers swept Arkansas Pine Bluff 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-15) and Kent State 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-16) opening the season with consecutive sweeps for the first time since the 2007 season.

Dorsey finished the day with 11 kills, a .786 hitting percentage, 41 assists, six aces and 17.5 total points.

In their first match of the day against Arkansas Pine Bluff, the Terriers got out to an early 4-0 lead on Dorsey’s serving.  Pine Bluff rallied back to cut the lead to 4-3 before Wofford extended the lead to 10-6 highlighted by kills from Amanda Liguori and Arden Anderson. The Lady Lions would rally back to trim the lead to 13-12 but two kills by Liguori and kills by Wendy Burnett and Dorsey help push the Terrier lead to 18-13.  The Terriers would go on to close the set out 25-18.  Anderson had five kills in the set.

In set two, broke a 3-3 tie with 7-2 run on Reagan Styles’ serve.  Taylor Baird chipped in with a block assists and a kill during the run.  Wofford held on to win 25-10.  Liguori had four kills on six attempts with no errors in the set along with two aces.  

Wofford finished the match with a 25-15 win.  Wofford’s Rachel Woodlee had three kills on six attempts in the set to lead the Terriers.

Overall, Anderson had nine kills and a .571 hitting percentage.  She also had three blocks assists and was responsible for 10.5 points.  Liguori had nine kills, eight digs, three aces and 12.5 points.  Baird led the team with six total blocks.  Dorsey had 17 assists and three kills in the match.  

Wofford outhit Arkansas Pine Bluff .238 to .012 during the match and had 52 points compared to the Lady Lions’ 27 points.  

In their second match of the day against Kent State, Wofford exploded out to a 9-2 lead with kills from Baird, Ligouri and Burnett.  The Flash never pulled within five points during the set as the Terriers took the set 25-12.  Ligouri had six kills in the set with one error on ten attempts.

The second set saw the Terriers take an 8-4 lead, before the Flash rallied back to cut the lead to 9-7.  Wofford used a service error and a Woodlee kill to push the lead to 11-7.  The Terriers never relented as they took the set 25-18.  Baird had four kills on four attempts with two block assists in the set.

The third and final set saw the Terriers break an 8-8 tie with a 7-0 run to push the lead to 15-8.  Wofford finished the match with the 25-16 win.  

Dorsey had 24 assists, four service aces and eight kills on ten attempts with no errors for a school record .800 hitting percentage. Wofford was led offensively by Ligouri, who had 10 kills.  Baird had nine kills on 13 attempts with only one error for a .615 hitting percentage.  She also had three block assists for a total of 10.5 points.  Styles collected 15 digs to lead the team defensively.  Anderson added seven total blocks.

Wofford outhit their opponent for the second match .341 to .113.  The Terriers had 15 total blocks leading to 16 errors by the Flash.  

The Terriers only trailed once in the two matches on Saturday.  They were behind Arkansas Pine Bluff 3-2 in the second set of the match.

Wofford will play host SIUE at 11:30 a.m. and Western Illinois at 4:30 p.m. to close the tournament.
