SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals to come from behind Tuesday night and beat Presbyterian College 3-1 at Snyder Field.

Down 1-0 in the first half, a loose ball was propelled up in the air by Blue Hose defender Bruce Olivier. Terrier midfielder
Jonathan Dean leaped for the ball and headed it over Blue Hose keeper Johnny Archer and into the net with one second on the clock to tie the game at halftime. It was the first goal of Dean's collegiate career.

"To get the goal literally a second before the half was huge," said head coach
Ralph Polson after the game. "Now instead of going into the half down a goal, we were even. We got the momentum and I think that carried us into the second half."

The Terriers (3-0-1) started the match at a tentative pace, and the Blue Hose pressed the Terrier defense early. At the 26 minute mark, midfielder John Speed launched a corner kick into the box that defender Matt Trimby headed home, giving the Blue Hose their 1-0 early lead.

From Dean's header goal onward, the Terriers shook off their early struggles and picked it up offensively.

At the 71st minute mark, midfielder
Charlie Heffron passed a ball into the box from the right corner. Midfielder
Will Puckett received the pass, took two dribbles to his left, and shot the ball toward the net. The ball deflected off a Presbyterian defender, then Archer's outstretched hand and finally found the back of the net to give Wofford a 2-1 lead.

Minutes later, a Presbyterian defender tripped a Wofford player in the box on a corner attempt to set up a penalty kick shot for midfielder
Nestor Jaramillo. The senior struck the ball right while the keeper guessed the wrong direction, resulting in Jaramillo's second goal of the season and the 18th of his career.

Overall, Wofford outshot Presbyterian 20-7 and took eight corners compared to the Blue Hose's two attempts.

"We did well," said Coach Polson. "We played so well to this point that I don't think we had our best game tonight. Give PC credit. Brett [Boulware]'s done a great job there and he's got a group of kids that play hard, but we were able to just sort it out and come away with the win."

Tuesday's victory avenged a loss to Presbyterian last season that saw the Terriers give the Blue Hose their lone victory of the 2014 campaign. Because of last season and Coach Polson's history with Presbyterian, having coached there for 17 seasons prior to Wofford, he said to win tonight was "nice" but ultimately it is "just another game."

"Same thing last year," he said. "They played hard last year, made the best of their opportunities and we didn't play exceptionally well last year. [Head coach] Brett [Boulware] is one of my former players. There's a little emotion there in getting the victory, but again, it's one more game in what hopefully will be a long season. We'll take some things from tonight that we have to improve on and get ready for the next one."

With the win, Wofford extends its home-field unbeaten streak to 10 straight games, dating back to the 2013 season. The Terriers also move to 16-8-1 all-time against Presbyterian.

Wofford next takes the field Saturday, traveling a few miles down the road to face cross-town rival USC Upstate for a 7 p.m. match.
