Macon, Ga. – The Wofford men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Mercer on Saturday evening in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament. Mercer scored two goals early in the second half and the Bears withstood the Wofford comeback to move on in the SoCon Tournament. The Terriers finish the 2017 season 4-15 overall and 4-6 in the SoCon.

After a scoreless first half the Bears found the opener in the 51
st minute when Jake Mezel linked up with Roberto Arteaga inside the box and Arteaga headed it in. Just over ten minutes later Mercer added another goal this time from Will Bagrou.

Down two goals Wofford showed no quit as the Terriers continued to generate offensive opportunities. Wofford cut the lead in half in the 70
th minute thanks to the goal from Zach Aversano who corralled the rebound after Austin Tuggle's shot was blocked and buried the goal.

The Terriers continued to press forward to try and find the equalizer but Mercer maintained the lead for the final 20 minutes of play to move on to the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament.

Despite the loss, Wofford totaled four shots. Zach Aversano scored his fourth goal of the season while Austin Tuggle recorded his third assist of the year. Matthew Reynolds recorded six saves in the game including a save on a penalty kick from Mercer's Will Bagrou.

Wofford ends the season 4-15 overall and 4-6 in the Southern Conference. The Terriers were led by Lucas Altman with six goals while Kevin Davidsson led the team with four assists.
