Asheville, NC – The Wofford women's tennis team remained unbeaten (4-0) as they pulled out a 4-3 victory over UNC-Asheville Sunday afternoon.
It was a shaky start for the Terriers as they were downed in their first two doubles matches, but they were not going to get swept. The team of
Georgia Fischer and
Brittney Wilbur finished strong as they defeated the Bulldogs pairing 6-4 and gave Wofford some momentum going into singles play.
Georgia Fischer matched her energy from her doubles match and went on to win her singles match, 6-2 and 7-5.
Lilie Steryous has had a brilliant opening to this season as she also won her match, 7-5 and 6-3. With only four courts being used and with Wofford down 3-2, both
Brittney Wilbur and
Ansley Hardeman knew they had to win to send the Terriers to a 4-0 record. After both losing the first set, they stepped up to the task and won the second set, which sent both matches to a deciding 3
rd set. Both Brittney and Ansley had no intentions of losing, for themselves and the team, and they each blasted their way to a 6-0 set win to give Wofford the match victory.
"What a great comeback today", said Coach Hall. "After losing the doubles point and going down 3-1 in the match score, we continued to battle and do what we do best. The fight and grit of this team is fun to coach. Another total team victory!"
