SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team played their final match of the 2021 season on Thursday afternoon as they took on the Furman Paladins, falling 4-3. The match marked the last for seniors
Javi Casasolas,
Diego Losada, and
Omar Williams who all had amazing careers at Wofford.
Wofford began the match by snatching the doubles point away from the Paladins, winning two of the three matches.
Will Fullett and
Ashe Ray kept a steady pace to their game and took their match 6-2, while
Omar Williams and
Alex Horn won as the team's second pairing with a 6-4 victory.
Javi Casasolas and
Callum Rendle had to play from behind and couldn't sneak out a win as they fell 6-4.
The Terriers were tripped up by Furman in singles play as the Paladins won two straight points to take the lead. Rendle was defeated in a 6-3, 6-2 loss, while Fullett tried to come back in set two, but was downed 6-2, 6-4. Ray battled to a pair of tiebreaking scores, but couldn't come up with a win with a 7-6, 7-5 defeat, and Casasolas was on the wrong end of a 7-5, 6-3 score that gave Furman the match. Wofford was not done however as Williams came back from a set two defeat to pick up the win in set three at #1 singles, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. Freshman
Alex Horn bounced back after losing set one 6-4, to win sets two and three, 7-5, 7-5, respectively to give the Terriers their final point of the season.
