Men's Soccer Falls in SoCon Quarterfinals to Furman

GREENSBORO N.C. – The No. 4 Wofford men's soccer team saw its season end Friday afternoon after falling 2-3 to No. 5 Furman in the Southern Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The match was played at the campus of top-seeded UNC-Greensboro.

The Terriers finish the 2022 campaign with a 6-9-2 record, the team's best record under head coach Joel Tyson and best record overall since the 2016 season.

Furman went out in front early, with Jake Raine netting a goal just over two minutes into the match. Raine doubled the Paladin lead in the 12th minute, putting Furman up 2-0.

The Terriers broke through in the 21st minute, with Nikolai Rojel recording his ninth goal of the season off a pass from Jakob Andersson, cutting the lead down to one.

The Paladins answered back several minutes later, with Dylan Lane scoring a goal, putting the lead back to two at 3-1.

Hugo Moldin brought Wofford back within one in the 35th minute, after his pass defected off the Paladin defender. Furman held on to a 3-2 advantage at the half.

After seeing five goals scored in the opening half, both sides went quiet in the second half. The Terriers had an opportunity to net the equalizing goal early, but Brandon Oddy's pass was just out of the reach of Rojel in the box.

The Terriers had another chance in the 59th minute, but Jackson Wrobel's shot rattled off the crossbar.

Wrobel had back-to-back looks within a minutes time, but Ben Roberts was there each time to make the saves with 15 minutes left as the Paladins held on for the win.
