SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team earned a 7-0 sweep over UNC Greensboro to pick up their first Southern Conference win of the season. The Terriers won the doubles point and then won all five singles matches played in straight sets.
In doubles, the Terriers had a 6-1 win by
Georgia Fischer and
Lily Woods at the #2 position and a 6-2 win by
Lilie Steryous and
Liz Massie at the #1 position. With a default at #3 doubles for
Ansley Hardeman and
Breda Brennan, Wofford swept the point.
Breda Brennan won at #6 singles by default, as the Spartans made the trip with only five players.
Emely Kahrs picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at the #5 position and a 6-4, 6-1 win by
Liz Massie at the #3 position clinched the match for the Terriers.
Lilie Steryous added a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles, while
Lily Woods took the #1 position by the same 6-3, 6-3 score.
Georgia Fischer closed out the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the #4 position for the third sweep of the season for the Terriers.
"It's always great to get that first conference win," said coach
Krissy Hall. "I was really proud of our energy and how well we executed our game plans on each and every court."
Wofford (7-8, 1-3) plays at Western Carolina on Friday, April 8 in the final regular season road match of the season. UNC Greensboro is 2-12 overall and 1-3 in league play.
