CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – On Friday afternoon in the opening round of the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 4-1 by Chattanooga at The Champions Club. The Mocs, seeded #4, won the doubles point and added three singles victories to advance over the #5 seeded Terriers.
Wofford opened up doubles play with a 6-2 win at the #2 position by
Bryce Keim and
Callum Rendle. The Mocs took the #3 position with a 7-5 win to even the point. At #1 doubles, the Mocs won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (9-7) to take the 1-0 lead in the match.
After the first set in singles action, the Mocs led in five of the six matches. The Mocs had a 6-4, 6-4 win at the #5 singles.
Mark Endler, who was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team, picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at the #4 position. The Mocs followed with wins at the #2 and #1 positions to clinch the match.
Robert Young at the #3 position and
Will Fullett at the #6 position were both in the third set when the match ended.
Wofford ends the regular season at 9-12 overall and 3-4 in the Southern Conference. Chattanooga is 6-15 on the season and advance to the semifinals to face the #1 seed ETSU.
