CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wofford College men's tennis team opened the spring season at Clemson University on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers defeated the Terriers 6-1 at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility indoor courts, with Wofford's
Max Graham picking up the point for the Terriers.
In doubles, the Tigers took the #1 position 6-4 and the #2 position 6-1. At #3 doubles, the match between
Ashe Ray and
Robbie Young against Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Ethan Silva was tied at 5-5 when the point was clinched by the Tigers.
Clemson won the #1, #2, #4 and #5 singles matches in straight sets. At #3 singles,
Robbie Young dropped the first set before winning the second set 6-4. The third set tiebreaker was won 10-3 by Clemson. At #6 singles,
Max Graham won the first set 6-2 and lost the second set. In the third set, Graham rallied for a 6-4 win.
"We had a solid first match," said head coach
Rod Ray. "We worked hard and earned opportunities today. We'll learn and capitalize on them next time. Clemson played a little better than us at some key times."
Wofford will travel to Georgia Tech on January 22 for their next match. The first home match will be on Wednesday, February 8.
