CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team took on #9 North Carolina indoors at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels won two of the three doubles matches and then swept the singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles, the Tar Heels picked up a 6-1 win at the #3 position. Wofford's #2 doubles team of
Callum Rendle and
Alex Horn earned a 6-3 win over the pairing of Brian Cernoch and Benjamin Kitty, who are ranked #37 in the nation and have twice been named the ACC Doubles Team of the Week. The doubles point was decided at the #1 position, which saw
Will Fullett and
Ian Rasheed tied with the #32 ranked team of Ryan Seggerman and Casey Kania at 4-4 before falling 6-4.
During singles play, the Tar Heels won all six matches.
Ashe Ray (#45),
Callum Rendle (#22) and
Will Fullett (#93) each faced opponents ranked in the top 100 nationally. At #5 singles,
Alex Horn played the closest match of the day, falling 6-2, 7-5. North Carolina improved to 11-4 on the season with the win.
Wofford (4-9) will begin SoCon play on Tuesday, March 14 against East Tennessee State at the Reeves Tennis Center.
