Box Score BLACKSBURG, Va. – Despite having to move the match indoors due to rain and snow, the Wofford College women's tennis team was able to earn a 7-0 sweep of Radford on Sunday afternoon. With the match being played at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on the campus of Virginia Tech, the Terriers won two of the three doubles matches and then won all six singles matches in straight sets.
To start off doubles action,
Georgia Fischer and
Lily Woods had a 6-2 win at the #1 position. The Highlanders took the #3 position match, but the Terriers earned the doubles point with a 6-3 victory by
Breda Brennan and Emely Sorensen at the #2 position.
Catherine Blouin began singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the #6 position.
Brianna Wilbur then claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win at the #3 position. At the #5 position,
Emely Kahrs had a 6-2, 6-3 win that clinched the match for the Terriers.
Georgia Fischer added a 7-6, 6-0 win at #4 singles, which was followed by a 6-1, 6-3 win at #2 by
Breda Brennan and a 6-4, 6-3 win by
Lily Woods at #1 closed out the match. Radford falls to 1-9 on the season after the loss.
"I was so proud of the energy we played with today," said head coach
Krissy Hall. "We all stuck to our game plans and competed hard on every point."
The Terriers (9-5) begins Southern Conference play on Friday, March 17, at UNC Greensboro. The next home match will be March 24 against East Tennessee State.
