CHARLESTON, S.C. – On Friday afternoon, the Wofford men's tennis team was defeated by The Citadel by a 4-3 score at the Earle Tennis Center. The Bulldogs took two of the three doubles matches and then the six singles matches were split by the teams.
During doubles play,
Max Graham and
Ashe Ray had a 7-5 win at the #3 position. The Bulldogs had 6-4 wins at both the #1 and #2 positions to take the doubles point.
Singles play saw two of the six matches go to three sets which decided the contest. Wofford had a win at #5 singles by
Alex Horn by a 6-1, 6-0 margin and then
Max Graham picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at the #6 position.
Robbie Young added a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the #3 position. The Bulldogs won at #1 singles in straight sets. At #2 singles,
Callum Rendle lost the first set and won the second, but the Bulldogs took the third set for the win. In the #4 singles match,
Will Fullett had a 6-0 win in the first set, but the Bulldogs had 7-5 wins in the second and third sets.
Wofford (4-11, 0-2) will return home on Sunday, March 26, as they host Samford at 11:00 a.m. The Citadel improves to 9-15 and 2-1 in league play.
