SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team ended the regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to Furman in front of a boisterous crowd at Reeves Tennis Center. The Paladins won all three doubles matches and then took five of the six singles matches for the victory.
During doubles play, Furman earned a 6-3 win at the #1 position and clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the #3 position. They completed the sweep with a 7-5 win at #2 doubles.
In singles, the Paladins won the first set in all six matches. They picked up straight-set wins at the #5, #1 and # 2 positions to clinch the match for Furman. After a straight-set win at the #3 position, the final two matches were decided in three sets.
At #5 singles,
Ian Rasheed dropped the first set 4-6, but rebounded with a 6-1 win in the second. The Paladins took the third set 6-2 to win the match.
Max Graham lost the first set 5-7 to Furman, but evened the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. The third set was played as a tiebreaker. With the score tied at 12-12, Graham won the next two points for a 14-12 win.
Wofford (5-15, 1-6) will open the Southern Conference on Thursday, April 20. Seedings will be announced on Sunday. The Paladins are now 10-13 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Saturday also marked the final home match for senior
Callum Rendle, who was honored after the contest.
