Men’s Soccer Loses Match to Longwood

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team lost its home match against Longwood by a score of 1-0 at Snyder Field on Tuesday, October 19.

The match started off slow for both teams, with neither team gaining traction early as the Terriers struggled to gain possession of the ball. In the 20th minute, a corner taken by Jakob Andersson found the leaping Bryce Peacock to put the ball on goal for Wofford's first shot of the night. The ball was quickly smothered by the keeper who was in the perfect position to save the shot. The first half would quickly turn into an offensive barrage with each team taking seven shots in the half. However, both defenses held firm as the first ended.

In the second half, Terriers dominated possession and were moving the ball forward on the Lancers' defense. However, in the 56th minute a Lancer midfielder lobbed a ball in for a waiting Longwood attacker who snuck into the back post unmarked and scored. With the 1-0 deficit, the Terriers would then desperately try to equal the score, taking 13 of their 20 shots in the second half. The Terriers best chance came in the 62nd minute, with Kameron Gorst taking the ball from the midfield circle and driving it to the outer perimeter of the penalty box. The streaking Terrier ripped a shot on the run but right to the keeper, who at first struggled to handle the power of the shot but eventually covered up the ball.

The Terrier offense continued to try and answer, but time ran out as Wofford was setting up for a corner kick. Wofford (4-4-2, 0-1-0) outshot Longwood (4-6-3, 2-2-0) 20 to eight. Longwood gave up seven corner kicks to Wofford's two. The Lancers had 20 fouls throughout the match compared to Wofford's eight. The Lancer keeper saved nine shots on the night.

The Terriers will be back at home on Saturday, October 19, for a conference matchup against UNC Greensboro for Senior night. Kickoff for the match will be 7pm at Snyder Field.
