Women’s Tennis Earns Senior Day Win Over UNCG

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the final home match of the season, the Wofford College women's tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro 5-2 at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers took the doubles point and then won four of the six singles matches for the win.
 
In doubles, the #1 pairing of Grace Agster and Lily Woods earned a 6-4 win. At #3 doubles, Catherine Blouin and Emely Kahrs were leading 4-1 before dropping the match 6-4. In the deciding doubles match, the #2 pair of Breda Brennan and Brianna Wilbur took a 4-1 lead and earned the double point for the Terriers with a 6-3 win.
 
The Terriers secured the first singles match as Catherine Blouin had a 6-2, 6-3 win at the #6 position. Lily Woods added a 6-4, 6-1 win at the #2 position as Wofford took a 3-0 lead in the overall match. The Spartans got on the board with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the #4 position. At #2 singles, Brianna Wilbur won the first set 6-1, but dropped the second 4-6. With a 6-2 win in the third set, Wilbur clinched the overall match for the Terriers.
 
At #5 singles, Grace Agster lost the first set before winning the second set 7-5. In the third set tiebreaker, the Spartans earned the win with a 10-4 decision. In the final match to conclude at the #1 position, Breda Brennan won the first set 6-2. In the second set, she fell behind 2-5 before rallying to tie the match at 6-6. Brennan won the tiebreaker 8-6 to close out the match.
 
"We really grinded it out today and found ways to win," said head coach Krissy Hall. "I am so proud of this team for pulling out the victory on Senior Day! We are looking forward to some good practices days to prepare for the upcoming conference tournament."
 
Following the match, the team recognized senior Emely Kahrs in her final home appearance. Wofford improves to 14-6 overall and 4-3 in the Southern Conference. The 14 overall wins are the most in school history, topping the 13 wins in 2006 and 2019. UNCG is now 3-17 overall and 1-5 in league play.  
 
Wofford will compete at the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament which begins on Thursday, April 18, in Chattanooga.
