CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In the semifinals of the 2025 Southern Conference Championship, the Wofford College women's tennis team was defeated 4-2 by East Tennessee State at the Champions Club on Friday afternoon.  
 
The Buccaneers won the doubles point and won the first two singles matches for a 3-0 lead. The Terriers won the next two singles matches to make it a 3-2 score, with the final two matches advancing to a third set. ETSU won the next at #5 singles to clinch the win.  
 
ETSU took an early lead in doubles with a 6-0 win at the #2 position. At the #1 position, the Buccaneers had a 3-2 advantage on the way to a 6-4 win that clinched the doubles point. The match at #3 doubles was unfinished with ETSU holding a 5-4 lead.
 
Singles play began with the Buccaneers winning the first set in four of the six matches. At the #6 position, ETSU had a 6-1, 6-0 win. They added a 6-2, 6-1 win at the #4 position to take a 3-0 advantage in the overall match. Lily Woods won 6-2, 7-5 at the #3 position and then Brianna Wilbur came away with a 7-5, 6-4 win at the #2 position as the Buccaneers held a 3-2 lead in the contest.
 
At the #5 position, Grace Agster lost the first set 2-6 and answered with a 6-3 win in the second set. She was defeated 6-1 in the third set, which clinched the match for ETSU. Breda Brennan lost the first set 3-6 and won the second set 6-4 at the #1 position. The third set was left unfinished with Brennan trailing 4-3.

"I could not be more proud of fight today," said head coach Krissy Hall. "Although we did not get the result we wanted, we had such an amazing year. This team will forever have a special place in my heart."
 
The Terriers (17-4) were the #3 seed and set a new record for wins in a single season. This season marked just the fourth all-time appearance in the semifinals for Wofford and the second in the last three years. ETSU improves to 14-8 overall as the #2 seed and they advance to the championship match on Saturday against #1 seed Furman.
