Wofford Softball Drops Series Finale Against Chattanooga

Spartanburg, S.C.- The Wofford softball team (28-18, 9-6 SoCon) lost the final game of the three-game weekend series against Chattanooga (33-12,10-4 SoCon) on Saturday, April 19, at Hope Field.  The Terriers were defeated by a 9-0 score to close out the series against the Mocs.

Pitcher Margaret Axelson received the start after pitching a complete game in Friday's second game and she went a third of an inning with four hits allowed and four runs given up. She was relieved by freshman Natalya Salo who finished the rest of the game for the Terriers. She threw 6.2 innings with seven hits surrendered on five runs allowed. Salo also walked six batters with two strikeouts to her name.

The Terriers were ambushed early in the top of the first inning scoring all four of their opening frame runs on the Terrier. Salo was able stop the bleeding when she came into relief after the early onslaught. The freshman got two quick outs to end the inning at 4-0 in favor of the Mocs.

Salo held the Chattanooga bats in check until the fifth inning when the Mocs pulled another two runs across the plate to extend the lead to 6-0. The hot Chattanooga hitting continued as they scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to bring the final score to 9-0. The Wofford bats were left silenced as Chattanooga's star pitcher Peja Goold held the Terriers in check the entire game, only allowing one hit in the contest.

Wofford's next matchup will be a home game against USC Upstate on Wednesday, April 23. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 pm.
