CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In the quarterfinals of the 2026 Southern Conference Championship, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 4-0 by Samford at the Champions Club. The Bulldogs, seeded second in the tournament, won the doubles point and then took three singles matches to clinch the win.
In doubles, the Bulldogs opened with a 6-4 win at the #3 position. At the #1 position,
Valdemar Dubin and
Jack Deveney were tied at 5-5 before a service break and a hold gave them a 7-5 win. In the deciding match at the #3 position,
Hugo Rask and
Parker Mariencheck were tied at 4-4 before the Bulldogs won the next two games for a 6-4 score to secure the doubles point.
Wofford and Samford each took the first set in three of the six singles matches. The Bulldogs won at the #6 position and the #1 position in straight sets. They added a win at the #5 position after a second-set tiebreak win 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) to clinch the overall match.
The remaining three matches were unfinished. At the #2 position,
Hugo Rask won the first set 6-1 and lost the second set, with the Bulldogs leading in the third set.
Jack Deveney won the first set 6-2 at the #3 position but lost the second set and was trailing in the third set. At the #4 position,
Daniel Clivio won the first set 7-6 and was trailing in the second set.
Wofford (7-12) was the seventh seed in the tournament. The Bulldogs (15-6) advance to face either UNCG or Chattanooga in the semifinals.
