Dr. J.D. McDermott is in his fourth season as the team orthopedist for Wofford College. The Colorado native practices at the Sports Medicine Institute - North Grove and Sports Medicine Institute - Upward campuses. He specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, hip, shoulder and elbow.
He attended Washington and Lee University, where he graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in History while also being pre-med. He was a four-year letterman on the men’s soccer team and was honored to be voted captain his senior year. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for medical school and moved to New York City to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Seton Hall University.
Following residency, he completed a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Houston/Baylor College of Medicine program. While in Houston, he served as an assistant team physician for the Houston Texans, Houston Rockets, Houston Dynamo, University of Houston and the World Series Champion Houston Astros. He and his wife, Caroline, have two daughters.
