MORGANTON, N.C. – Wofford sophomore Sarah Hurt claimed the individual title at the 2010 Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate after firing a tournament record three-under par 141 (72-69) over two rounds.
Hurt finished the tournament four strokes ahead of second-place Julie Saleeby of NC State, playing as an individual, and led the Terriers to a fifth-place finish overall. Hurt, who led the tournament with eight birdies, carded an individual-round low of 69 over the final 18 holes en route to the title.
The individual title marks Hurt’s first of her collegiate career. The sophomore from Southlake, Texas leads the team with four top-twenty finishes this season.
Junior Alex Rankin finished tied for 17th individually after a two-round score of 153 (77-76). Senior Sarah Herbert carded a 156 (77-79) to tie for 27th and junior Meredith Few and freshman Tarah Taylor each recorded a score of 166.
As a team, the Terriers improved upon their first round score of 313 with a second round score of 303 to finish the tournament at 616 (+40).
First-round team leader, Elon, capitalized on its opening-round, three-stroke advantage over Appalachian State, matching the Mountaineers’ final round team 302 to earn the team championship Tuesday at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate contested at the par-72, 5,869-yard Mimosa Hills Golf Club.
The Terriers will hit the course again April 18-20 at the 2010 Southern Conference Championship, taking place at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
