SPARTANBURG, S.C. – As summer comes to an end, over twenty Wofford baseball players who competed in summer wooden bat leagues are also ending their seasons. The summer was highlighted by James Foster winning the championship in the Cape Cod League and Konstantine Diamaduros and J.D. Osborne winning the Coastal Plains League title.
James Foster played in the Cape Cod League for the Cotuit Kettleers. He saw action in twenty games as an outfielder and batted .207. The Kettleers won the Arnold Mycock Trophy with a series win over Yarmouth-Dennis on Friday night for their first title since 1999.
“It has been a really great experience up here,” said Foster. “It is the best summer collegiate league there is and it definitely shows because the pitchers are the best in the nation, the hitters are the best in the nation and the coaches I have been around have really helped me mature as a player. From what I have learned up here, I can’t wait to get back to school and apply it and help the team out that much more with the experience that I have gotten.”
The Forest City Owls won the Petitt Cup for the second straight season with a series win over Edenton on Saturday night. Konstantine Diamaduros finished the season hitting .260 with 54 hits and 29 RBIs in 52 games played. J.D. Osborne made ten appearances on the mound with a 4.20 ERA along with 20 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Also in the Coastal Plains League, Mac Doyle hit .265 with 45 hits in 48 games played for the Florence Red Wolves. Cash Collins also played for Florence and had a 3.82 ERA in 66.0 innings pitched. David Roney started all 50 games for the Thomasville Hi-Toms with 21 RBIs and his four homeruns led the team. Tom Dolinak, John Cornely and Pete Noordsy all pitched for the Outer Banks Daredevils. Cornely led the gourp with a 1.63 ERA in 14 appearances with 45 strikeouts. Noordsy posted a 2.61 ERA and Dolinak had a 5.46 ERA in eight appearances.
Out in the Hawaii Collegiate League, Mason Bradley earned an All-Star appearance. He pitched in nine games with a 1.42 ERA for Menehune. Alex Wilson played for the Aliis and posted a 3.98 ERA in 20.1 innings pitched.
In the Southern Collegiate Baseball League, Gus White, Ryan Traylor, Anthony Rowland, and Matt Moore all played for the Spartanburg Blue Eagles. Traylor was 5-1 overall with a 1.88 ERA and he started the All-Star game. Rowland was 3-0 with 27 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched and White threw 35 innings with 22 strikeouts. Moore played 19 games in the infield and also threw 2.1 innings with two strikeouts. Gus White also played for the Florence Red Wolves in the CPL playoffs, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 8.0 innings pitched.
For the Morganton Aggies, Taylor Rozier hit two homeruns in 21 games and Bradley Evsich played in 31 games. Thomas Nichols made seven appearances on the mound for the Fort Mill Stingers.
Brandon Yarusi was 3-1 with a 1.48 ERA in 42.2 innings pitched for Monmoth in the ABCCL. Alex Lee played in twenty games for the East Morris Blues in the ABCCL. In addition, Landon Bennett made an All-Star appearance playing for the Atlanta Astros in the Sun Belt League, while Clark Wise is playing American Legion ball this summer.
In the pro ranks, Brandon Waring has played in 108 games at third base for the Bowie Baysox, a Class-AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Waring is hitting .254 on the season with 102 hits, 64 runs scored, 65 RBI and 19 home runs, which is second on the team.
Michael Gilmartin has played in 106 games for the Kane County Cougars, a Class-A affiliate of the Oakland A’s in the Midwest League. At shortstop, he is hitting .250 with 95 hits, 35 runs scored and 51 RBIs.
