Brenton Bersin Named SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week today for the games played Saturday, October 8. Wofford’s Brenton Bersin was tabbed as the Special Teams Player of the Week, Georgia Southern’s Robert Brown was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Samford’s Alvin Hines earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Chattanooga’s Terrell Robinson was selected as the Freshman of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

Bersin, a senior wide receiver from Charlotte, North Carolina, returned a Cass Couey punt 76 yards for a touchdown to give the Terriers a 14-0 advantage, en route to a 43-14 victory at The Citadel.  It was Bersin’s first career punt return for a touchdown and the first one for the Terriers since 2006. Wofford leads the nation in punt returns with an average of 27.0 yards per return. He added two receptions for 12 yards in the game. 

It is the first Player of the Week honor for Bersin in his career. He was also named the National Punt Returner of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
