2014 SoCon Preseason Selections Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In conjunction with the 2014 Southern Conference Football Media held on Wednesday, the league's head coaches selected an all-conference first and second team. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes as part of the balloting. The Terriers had seven players recognized by the league's coaches, with two on the first team.

In addition, the conference's eight head coaches have chosen Chattanooga as the choice to win the league championship, while Wofford was picked to finish fourth. The Southern Conference Sports Media Association also selected Chattanooga first, with Wofford in fourth place.

Leading the Terriers on the first team were offensive lineman T.J. Chamberlin and defensive lineman Tarek Odom. Chamberlin, a junior from Land O'Lakes, Florida, was a starter in the last seven games of the 2013 season at right guard. Odom, a senior from St. Augustine, Florida, started ten games at defensive end last season. He was named All-Southern Conference first team after leading the team with 13 tackles for loss.

Second team honorees include running back and return specialist Will Gay, offensive lineman Anton Wahrby, linebacker Kevin Thomas, and defensive backs Chris Armfield and Bernard Williams. Gay, a junior from Anderson, South Carolina, started eleven games last season and was second on the team with 486 rushing yards. He was also second on the team with 757 all-purpose yards. Wahrby, a sophomore from Karlskrona, Sweden, started seven games at right tackle last season as a true freshman. Kevin Thomas, a senior from Mills River, North Carolina, started nine games at inside linebacker and was second on the team with 80 tackles. Armfield, a sophomore cornerback from Cordova, Tennessee, started all eleven games and led the team and SoCon in interceptions with three. Williams, a senior from Buffalo, New York, started all eleven games at cornerback and was fourth on the team in tackles.

The Terriers will report to campus on Sunday, August 3 and begin practice on Monday, August 4. A complete practice schedule will be released next week.
