The sophomore forward earned the honor scoring both of Wofford's goals in the team's 2-0 win over the College of Charleston on Saturday. Aurednik scored early in the game, striking home the game-winner in the eighth minute before adding an insurance goal in the 78th. Aurednik also created the opportunity for Wofford's game-winning penalty kick over USC Upstate last Wednesday.
Aurednik leads the team currently in goals (5) and points (10) and has been a fixture in the Southern Conference-best scoring offense, which has averaged 2.00 goals per game (No. 26 nationally). Aurednik ranks in the top 20 nationally in goals per game average with 0.71.
"It's a very exciting honor for him to earn," said seventh-year head coach Ralph Polson. "Matt is quickly showing that he's one of the top goal scorers in the league. It was a big weekend for him between the two goals against a very good College of Charleston team and creating some important opportunities for us against Upstate. His success has been tied to the success of this team, which is exciting moving forward."
The Lexington, S.C., native was also named to the Preseason All-Conference team this year, after earning All-Freshman Team and Second Team All-Conference honors in 2013.
The men's soccer team plays tonight at 7 p.m., on Snyder Field where they begin Southern Conference play against East Tennessee State University.
