Wofford Announces 2015 Football Schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College has announced the 2015 football schedule, which features home games against SoCon foes Western Carolina, Furman, Chattanooga, and Samford, along with road games against Clemson and Idaho.

The Terriers will open the season on the road at Clemson on September 5. The Tigers finished last season 10-3 overall, including a 40-6 win over Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl. When the teams last met in 2011, the Terriers were up 21-13 in the second quarter and were tied at 21 at the half before the Tigers came away with a 35-27 victory. Clemson has an 11-3 lead in the series that began in 1896.

Wofford will open the home slate on September 12 against Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles were 5-7 overall with a 4-4 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference. The teams last met in 1949.

The Terriers will play their second road game against an FBS opponent on September 19 at Idaho. This marks just the second time Wofford will face two FBS teams in the same season (2001, Clemson and South Carolina; 2009, South Florida and Wisconsin).

For the final non-conference game, Wofford will host Gardner-Webb on September 26 as part of Family Weekend. The Runnin' Bulldogs have won the last two meetings, but Wofford has a 16-8 lead in the series that began in 1972.

The Southern Conference slate will begin on October 3 at Mercer. Wofford won the first meeting as conference members 34-6 and this will be the Terriers first trip to Macon since 1941. The road stand continues on October 10 at The Citadel, with Wofford attempting to win their 17th straight game in the series.

The first SoCon home game of the season will be on October 17 as Western Carolina visits Gibbs Stadium. Last season the Catamounts ended the Terriers' eight-game winning streak in the series with a 26-14 win in Cullowhee. Wofford remains at home on October 24 against Chattanooga as part of Homecoming weekend activities. The Mocs won the 2014 SoCon Championship with a 7-0 record and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals.

Wofford will then travel to VMI for the final SoCon road game of the season on October 31. It will be the first meeting between the two teams in Lexington since 2004. The Terriers have won eight of the last nine games in the series. Following an open weekend on November 7, Wofford will host Samford on November 14. As members of the SoCon, the Terriers have a slim 4-3 lead in the series. The regular season will end on November 21, as Furman will make the short trip to Spartanburg. The home team has won the last seven meetings between the Terriers and Paladins.

All dates are subject to change. Kick off times and the Southern Conference television schedule will be announced at a later date.
