GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wofford College women's tennis team picked up its first win of the 2016 season, as the Terriers defeated the North Carolina A&T Aggies 6-1 at the Aggies Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers (1-1) first swept the doubles matches before taking five of the six singles matches, with the Terriers winning by default in the last singles and doubles matches. Juniors
Catherine Martin and
Kalli Karas and sophomore
Lauren Reid each picked up victories in singles and doubles, while freshman
Curran Carver won her singles matches and freshman
Cassidy Hicks earned a doubles victories for the Terriers.

Karas and Hicks paired at the number one doubles spot to win 6-3 against Aggies sophomore Khalia Powell and freshman Sheyla Fabiana Ramirez. The victory is Hicks' first career doubles win.

Martin and Reid paired at the two position to beat Aggies sophomore Nadia Hilton-Adams and freshman Angelica Maria Ochoa Martinez 6-1.

In singles, Reid picked up her second victory of the season at the number three by beating freshman Staisha Cain 6-0, 6-0.

Carver won her first singles match of her Wofford career Saturday, defeating Hilton-Adams at the number five spot 6-2, 6-2.

Martin earned her first victory as the number one singles this season. She fell in the first set to Martinez 4-6, but rallied to take the next two sets 6-0, 10-3.

Karas also dropped the first set in her singles match against Powell at the number three position, falling 3-6 before winning the next two sets 6-2, 10-3.

Hicks suffered the lone Terrier defeat of the day in singles. She won the first set at the number two spot against Ramirez 2-6, but dropped the next two sets 6-3, 10-6.

The Terriers move to 7-0 all-time against the Aggies, with a 3-0 mark when facing the Aggies on the road.

Wofford returns home to play their home opener Sunday against King University (Tenn.) as part of a men's-women's tennis doubleheader. Both teams begin their matches at 1 p.m. at the Reeves Tennis Center.
