ELON, N.C. – The Wofford men's golf team captured a fifth place finish at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The two day, 54 hole tournament took place at the par 71 Alamance Country Club. The fifth place finish is the second top five finish for Wofford in three tournaments this fall.
Wofford finished with a team score of 856, four over par. In Monday's opening round the Terriers shot 283, tied for second best round of the day. In the team's second 18 holes on Monday, Wofford finished with a 286 before shooting a 287 in Tuesday's third and final round.
Andrew Novak just missed his third top five finish in as many tournaments as the senior finished tied for sixth. Novak shot a two under par 69 in all three rounds of the tournament, two of which were the low rounds for the team. He finished six under par to shoot 207.
Jeremy Grab finished tied for 18
th place with a two under par performance. Grab shot a 72 in his first 18 before improving six strokes to shoot a 66 in his second round, the lowest by a Terrier in the tournament. Grab shot a 73 in Tuesday's final round and finished with a total score of 211.
Cam Andrade finished seven over par with rounds of 71, 75, and 74, respectively. He finished with a three day total of 220. Josh Allen, playing in the lineup for the first time this season, had rounds of 71, 76 and 74 to finish with a total of 221, eight over par. Allen's opening round 71 was his best round of the fall season.
Harrison Frye shot 78, 78, 71 to finish 14 over par. His score counted in the team's final round and his 71 in that final round is a season low for the junior.
Gardner-Webb won the tournament with a 22 under par performance. Loyola Maryland (-4) finished in second place 18 shots back and host school Elon took home a third place finish at three under par. East Carolina finished fourth at two under par and Wofford finished fifth at four over par.
Vic Lipscomb's team returns to the course Oct. 22-24 at the Camden Collegiate. The tournament, hosted by the University of South Carolina, will be played at Camden Country Club.Â
