LAKE MARY, Fla. – Juniors
Jeremy Grab and
Andrew Novak have the Wofford College men's golf team leading the pack at The Legacy Intercollegiate, which teed off Monday morning at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes.
Â
Through two rounds of action, the Terriers are 5-under-par and lead the tournament by eight shots. Wofford started the day with an even-par 288 before a second-round 5-under 283 pushed them in front.
Â
Wofford is the only team under par in the 14-team field. Keiser University (+3) is in second, followed by Presbyterian (+10), Navy (+13) and Florida Gulf Coast (+16) to round out the top five. The tournament is being hosted by Stetson University at the par-72, 7,160-yard Legacy-Forzio course at The Legacy Club.
Behind a combined nine birdies and an eagle, Grab carded back-to-back 69s and leads the field at 6 under par. Novak shot a pair of 70s and is two shots back of his Terrier teammate at 4-under-par. Sophomore
Drake Cassidy used a second-round 3-under 69 to make his way back to even-par for the tournament and is tied for sixth.
Â
Grab got off to a quick start by eagling his second hole of the day. Starting on the back 9, the Charleston, S.C., native holed his eagle at the par-5, 529-yard 11th. He posted four birdies in the round, including back-to-back birdies at the par-5 fourth and par-4 fifth, to take the lead after the first round.
Â
Grab increased his lead in round two. He posted five birdies and, once again, took advantage of the par-5 11th with a birdie. He bounced back from a bogey on 16 by birdieing three of the next four holes to reach 6 under par.
Â
Fresh off a school-record 13-under-par performance at last week's Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, Novak began the day with three birdies through his first nine holes. He completed the Wexford with 36 straight holes of bogey-free golf and made it 45 straight before the streak ended on the par-4 first.
Â
Novak, who also started both rounds on the back 9, dropped two shots with three bogeys in round two. He made it all back and then some on the front 9, carding two birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 536-yard fourth.
Â
Play was suspended due to darkness with seven of the field's 73 players still on the course. The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m., with the final round scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
