SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team enjoyed a successful weekend at the USC Upstate Invitational, which concluded on Sunday afternoon.

The tournament was the first of the team's fall tournament schedule.

Catherine Martin and
Kalli Karas, junior
Lauren Reid, and sophomore
Cassidy Hicks were the four Terriers that competed in the event.

Wofford took home the championship in the Black Doubles draw, as Martin and Reid took the final match, 6-1 on Sunday.

In the Green Singles draw, Karras won three matches in a row to take home the consolation bracket title after losing her first match of the event.

For the entire weekend, the Terriers finished with a 12-5 record. In singles matches, Wofford players finished 6-3. They fared even better in doubles, going 6-2, with Martin and Reid cruising to the championship in their draw.

In the road to their title, Martin and Reid pulled out close wins in their first two doubles matches, winning 7-5 and 7-6 (5). However, they dominated their semifinal and championship matches on Saturday and Sunday, winning 6-2 in each.

Hicks and Karas also performed well in doubles, finishing with a 2-2 record on the weekend. After losing their first match, the duo won two straight in the consolation bracket before falling in the consolation final, 6-4.

Hicks was 2-1 overall in singles competition, reaching the semifinals in the championship bracket.
