GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team opened the 2016-17 season by competing in the Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,313-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C. over the weekend.
Ashley Czarnecki, a freshman from Greenville, S.C., led the Terriers as she finished tied for 56
th overall at +11 (70-78-79). In her first collegiate round on Friday, she shot a 70 which included five birdies. On Saturday, Czarnecki and freshman
Grace Massengill tied for the low round of the day for the Terriers at 78. In the final round on Sunday, senior
Katy Funk was the low Terrier with a 78. Also competing for Wofford were
Page Morehead and
Nicole Chin.
Texas won the team title at -11, with Furman second at -9. Illinois was the only other team under par, finishing at -2. As a team, Wofford was +82 and finished in 20
th place. Individually, Emilee Hoffman of Texas took first place at -6 (65-75-70=210) and Alice Chen of Furman was second at -5 (70-69-72=211).
In its 44th year, the tournament featured a 54-hole stroke play. Host Furman was joined in the field by Augusta, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Georgetown, Georgia State, Illinois, Kennesaw State, Maryland, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Ole Miss, Texas, Tulsa, UNC Wilmington, Virginia Tech, and Wofford.
The Terriers will host the Terrier Intercollegiate on October 10 and 11 at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
