Women's Golf Finishes Fifth at Terrier Int.

Senior Nicole Chin was Wofford's top golfer of the tournament.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's golf team recorded a fifth place finish, the team's highest of the fall, at the Terrier Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36 hole tournament was held Oct. 23-24. Wofford hosted 11 teams at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

Despite nasty weather on Monday, the teams completed 18 holes of play. Tuesday's final 18 was played under near perfect conditions, with weather in the high 60's and the sun shining.

Wofford shot 315 in the first round and improved 12 shots to shoot 303 in Tuesday's second round. Wofford's team score of 618 was 42 over par on the par 72 course.

"I was proud of our team's play today with one of our lowest team scores of the season," said head coach Angie Ridgeway.

High Point won the tournament by eight shots over Georgia Southern. High Point finished with a team score of 16 over par. High Point's Cayla Smith won medalist honors, finishing two under par and winning by two shots.

"The golf course played tough with heavy Bermuda rough and fast greens," noted Ridgeway. "Georgia Southern put up a good number today, but High Point played solid for two days to take the win."

Senior Nicole Chin was Wofford's top golfer in the event. Chin shot 75 and 76 in her two rounds and finished seven over par, good enough to tie for seventh place. The first round 75 was the best round of the fall for Chin and the top 10 finish was Chin's highest finish since her second place finish at the Whistling Straights Intercollegiate on Oct. 2-3, 2015.

Anna Eddy tied for 12th place. The freshman shot 80 in her first round but rebounded nicely to shoot an even par 72 in the second round. The round of 72 and the 12th place finish are both season and career bests for Eddy.

Grace Massengill tied for 17th. The sophomore shot 76 and 78 (+10) in her two rounds. Lina Settelmayer opened with an 85 o

Abby Bloom, the third freshman in the Wofford lineup, shot back to back rounds of 84 and finished in 47th place.

The tournament was the final of four fall tournaments for the Terriers. Wofford's spring season begins Feb. 26-27 when the Terriers head to Charleston to participate in the Oyster Shuck Match Play at Patriots Point.
