HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Wofford men's golf team kicked off the spring season with a 10th place finish at the Wexford Intercollegiate. The two day, 54-hole tournament was held Feb. 27-28 at the par 72 Wexford Plantation. Francis Marion was the host school and 18 teams participated in the tournament.

"We were a little rusty coming out of the winter break. Our finish was a little better than our start, so that is encouraging," said head coach
Vic Lipscomb.

Wofford shot 298 (+10) and 307 (+19) in the two rounds on Monday and finished with a score of 299 (+11) in Tuesday's final round. The Terriers shot 904 for the tournament, good enough for 10
th place. Wofford finished three shots behind ninth place High Point but also three shots ahead of Davidson, Dayton and Eastern Kentucky who tied for 11
th place.

Senior
Andrew Novak, playing in the top spot in the lineup, led Wofford in the tournament. Novak finished tied for fifth place individually with rounds of 72, 72, and 74. He has finished in the top 10 in all six tournaments in the 2016-17 season. Novak won the Wexford Intercollegiate last season and set a school record for tournament score in relation to par in the process, finishing 13 under par with rounds of 70, 67 and 66.

Cam Andrade had an opening round 72 and shot 77 and 84 in the second and third rounds, respectively. Andrade and teammate
Walker Simas, playing No. 5 in the lineup, both finished tied for 59
th in the field. Simas shot 77 and 83 in the first two rounds but rebounded to shoot 73, one over par, in Tuesday's final round.

Harrison Frye and
Drake Cassidy both finished tied for 65
th. Frye recorded rounds of 77, 79 and 78 while Cassidy tallied rounds of 81, 79, and 74. Cassidy's final round 74 ties his lowest round of the season.

Gardner-Webb won the tournament with a total score of 882, eighteen over par and four shots ahead of Winthrop who was the runner-up. Radford's Myles Creighton shot 212 (71, 73, 68) to take home the individual championship.

The Terriers return to the course next Monday and Tuesday, March 6-7, at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate. The tournament, hosted by USCA Aiken, will be held at the Palmetto Club.Â
