SUNSET, S.C. – The Wofford men's golf team finished ninth at the Clemson Invitational in the final regular season event of the season. The two day, 54 hole tournament, held at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls, concluded on Saturday afternoon due to the threat of inclement weather on Sunday. The 12 teams in the field played 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday.
Wofford shot 301, 306 and 303 in the three rounds to finish with a total team score of 910 (+46) on the par 72 course.
Evan Grenus, one of two seniors in the lineup, was the top Terrier in the event. Grenus opened with a 71 the first round and carded the best score for Wofford by five strokes. In the second 18 of the day Grenus was one of three Terriers to shoot 76. He shot 75 in the final round on Saturday and his scored counted all three rounds for Wofford. He tied for 18
th in the field of 63.
Nick Willis tied for 27
th. The freshman improved in each round as he started with a 77 in the first round and improved one shot to shoot 76 in the second 18 Friday. He had Wofford's low round of the day with a 73 on Saturday.
Sophomore
Walker Simas tied for 31
st. Simas shot 76 in each of the first two rounds and finished with a 75 on Saturday.
Ryan Marter, a freshman, shot 77, 78, and 80 and tied for 50
th while senior
Patrick Bridges shot 86, 87, and 82 in his three rounds and finished 62
nd.
Boston College won the tournament by shooting 866 (+2). Clemson, the host school, finished second two shots back and Notre Dame finished third (+8).
After playing six rounds since Monday, Wofford concludes the regular season slate. Next up, Wofford takes part in the Southern Conference Championship, held at Pinehurst No. 9 April 22-24.
