Stephenson garners All-America Scholar honor

Senior Jon Stephenson of the Wofford men's golf team was recently named a Top Flite-Spalding Golf Coaches Association of America All-America Scholar.

Stephenson's recognition is the second of his career, as he also earned it last season.

In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must possess a 3.2 or higher grade point average, at least junior standing and carry a 76.0 stroke average in three-fourths of the tournaments in which his team competed.

"This award embodies what we strive for in athletics at Wofford," said head coach Dan O'Connell. "Specificially, great students with tremendous athletic ability. It is certainly a great way for him to cap his career."

This past season, Stephenson was second among the Terrier regulars with a 74.97 stroke average, and he finished with a team-best 13th-place tying score at the Southern Conference Championship. He garnered all-league accolades in his sophomore campaign of 2001-02.

Off the course, he excels in the classroom. He is soon to graduate with a 3.26 g.p.a. as a business economics major.
