Lantz's father to coach in World Bowl XII

Rick Lantz, the father of Wofford defensive backs coach Terry Lantz, is head coach of the Berlin Thunder who face Frankfurt in Saturday's World Bowl XII.

The game, to be televised nationally by FOX Sports at noon, will determine the champion of NFL Europe.

The elder Lantz is a longtime collegiate coach. He most recently served as Navy's interim head coach in the 2001 campaign.

The younger Lantz is in his fifth season in charge of the Terrier secondary. Over the last four seasons, Lantz coached 2003-04 SoCon Male Student-Athlete of the Year Matt Nelson. A first-team consensus All-America, Nelson was the SoCon Defensive Player of the Year. The free safety also placed third in voting for the Buck Buchanan Award as the nation's top defensive player.

Lantz's defensive backs were instrumental in Wofford topping the SoCon with 22 interceptions in 2003.

The 2002 Wofford pass defense led the SoCon by allowing just 144.5 yards per game. In addition to Nelson, cornerback Roland Harris also earned All-SoCon honors that season.
