The Wofford women's tennis program and head coach Rod Ray have announced their 2004-05 schedule. The Terriers will have eight home matches during the spring season. Of those eight, five will be against Southern Conference schools.
"The schedule of fall tournaments and spring dual matches is very challenging," said Ray. "There is not one padded match on the slate.
"The Southern Conference will be extremely good this year, possibly its best in years. Our goal is to keep improving all season. If we can do this, then we can compete with the top teams in the league."
In the fall, Wofford will play in five tournaments. Beginning Sept. 24-26 at the UTC Steve Baras Memorial Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Terriers will then see action in the Charleston Southern Fall Classic in Charleston, S.C., Oct. 8-9.
A busy October slate continues with the Wolfpack Fall Invitational (Oct. 15-17) in Raleigh, N.C., the NCAA Indoor Regional Championship (Oct. 21-24) in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Southern Intercollegiate (Oct. 29-31) in Columbia, S.C.
The Terriers then open the spring with six consecutive road matches. They will play at Stetson (Jan. 22), Jacksonville (Jan. 23), Georgia State (Jan. 28), Mercer (Jan. 29), Radford (Feb. 4) and ACC institution Virginia Tech (Feb. 5).
Wofford will host Gardner-Webb in its home opener, Feb. 9, before being back on the road for three of its next four matches. The Terriers travel to High Point (Feb. 18) and Elon (Feb. 19) then return home against Chattanooga (Feb. 25) and then play at Georgia Southern (Feb. 27).
A non-conference home contest versus Winthrop (March 9) opens the March schedule. Wofford also travels to College of Charleston (March 16) and Appalachian State (March 20) in the month with Western Carolina (March 17) and Furman (March 24) at home.
The final road non-conference meeting will be April 2 at Charlotte before the Terriers close their home slate with three straight at the Reeves Tennis Center. NCAA Division III power Emory comes to Spartanburg April 9 followed by UNC Greensboro (April 10) and Davidson (April 12). Wofford closes the regular-season with an April 16 match at East Tennessee State.
The Southern Conference Tournament is slated for April 21-24 in Charleston, S.C.
