Wofford volleyball drops 3-0 decision to Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Wofford volleyball team traveled down I-85 to Greenville on Wednesday night, but were unable to come away with a victory as they fell to the Furman Paladins 3-0. The Paladins took the match by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-11.

Wofford ( 15-14, 5-9 SoCon) was unable to get going in the opening set as they fell behind 3-0, and eventually 13-7 in the middle of the set. Wofford would get within five at 15-10 but an extended Paladin run pushed the lead out to 19-11, one the Terriers could not overcome in dropping the first set.

Set two started off similar with the Terriers falling behind early on as well as in the middle of the set. Trailing 15-10, Wofford was able to battle back in the latter stages and get within one at 20-19 and ultimately tie it at 22. However, Furman (15-12, 8-6 SoCon) won three of the next four points to take a 2-0 advantage in that match.

The Paladins came out strong from the start in set three jumping out to a 12-5 advantage. Wofford was unable to overcome the early push as Furman took the final set and the match.
The Terrier offense was led by Shanna Hughes who tallied nine kills and Joanna Suddath who added 20 assists from the setter position. Brittany Thompson led the Wofford defense with 27 digs while Sarah Palmer added 15.
Nicole Palazzo led the Paladin offense with 11 kills along with Alison West who added nine. On the defensive side, West capped off a double-double  performance with 20 digs.
The Terriers return to action on Saturday night at 8 p.m. against the Phoenix of Elon.
