Wofford falls to Delaware State in five sets

HAMPTON, Va.—In day two action of the Tiny Laster Memorial Tournament, the Wofford Terriers dropped their second five set match of the weekend falling to Delaware State, 3-2, by scores of 25-20, 13-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10. Both teams alternated wins in the opening four sets with Delaware State taking set five. This was the third consecutive match in which the Terriers went the distance.
Sophomore Stacy Bryd had a solid match calculating 19 kills with only four errors on 47 total attacks resulting in a .319 hitting percentage. Shanna Hughes also tallied double digit kills with 15 kills on 71 attacks while adding 25 digs.
Brittany Thompson anchored the Wofford (1-2) defensive efforts with a match-high 35 digs, while junior setter Joanna Suddath chipped in six kills and another match high with 45 assists.
For Delaware State (1-2), Cassandra Joyner led the way with 20 kills and six errors on 55 total attacks leading to a .255 hitting percentage. Erica Tajchman and Sarah Wheatcroft also reach double figures in kills adding 13 and 10, respectively.
Wofford hit a match high .316 totaling 14 kills with just one error on 38 total attacks in set two. The Terrier defense limited the Hornets to a .023 hitting percentage during the second set leading to a 12 point win.
