Wofford vs. UNC Greensboro Box Score
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Terriers fell to UNC Greensboro in three sets (25-21, 25-10, 25-18) in Southern Conference volleyball action Sunday.
The two teams battled point for point in the first set, which saw 13 ties and six lead changes. Neither team was able to gain more than a two-point advantage until UNC Greensboro went on a three-point run to take a 22-17 lead late in the set before going on to win the first set 25-21.
The Terriers sputtered in the second set, allowing the Spartans to take a 10-1 lead to open the set. Wofford’s offense struggled, combining for only six kills and allowing UNC Greensboro to rack up a .379 attack percentage en route to a 25-10 victory.
In the third set, it was the Terriers who opened with an 8-2 run, but the Spartans went on a 7-1 run to tie the score at nine before taking a two point lead behind the serving of Alissa Beaudway. UNC Greensboro would not trail again as they took the third set 25-18.
The Spartans were led by freshman Olivia Humphries, who recorded 11 kills and a .429 attack percentage. Junior Alissa Beaudway added nine kills and led the Spartans with four total blocks. Libero Catherine Hanners led the floor defense with 23 digs, while setter Caley Redden recorded a double-double with 30 assists and 16 digs.
Junior Stacy Byrd led the Terriers with 10 kills. Setter Joanna Suddath notched her sixth double-double of the year with 16 assists and 11 digs while senior Shanna Hughes led the Terrier defense with 17 digs. Libero Sarah Palmer added 13 defensive saves and freshman Arden Anderson tallied a team-high four blocks.
With the loss, Wofford falls to 15-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Southern Conference while UNC Greensboro improves to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Terrier will visit cross-town rival Furman on Wednesday, October 14. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
