Wofford vs. Winston-Salem State Box Score
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team swept Winston-Salem State 3-0 for the third time in the past week to finish the first day of the SC State Spikefest with an undefeated 2-0 record.
The first set opened with the teams trading points until a 5-0 run by Wofford broke a 10-10 tie and gave the Terriers a 15-10 lead. The Terriers controlled the remainder of the set, winning 25-19.
Wofford dominated the second set, jumping to an early 12-4 lead. The Terriers recorded a team attack percentage of .514 while holding the Lady Rams to a .000 team hitting percentage en route to claiming the 25-8 win.
Winston-Salem State rallied in the third set, claiming a slight lead at 8-6, but the Terriers powered back to tie the score at 8 and regain control of the lead for the remainder of the set. With a Shanna Hughes kill, Wofford claimed the third and final set by a score of 25-19.
Annika Barnwell led the Lady Rams with nine kills, while libero LaKeisha Hawes racked up 18 digs in the loss.
Freshman outside hitter Rachel Woodlee led the Terriers with 14 kills and a .407 hitting mark while setter Joanna Suddath contributed 29 assists. Senior Shanna Hughes led the Terrier defense with 13 digs in the win.
With the win, the Terriers improve to 10-2 on the season and hold on to a nine-match winning streak. Wofford will take the court again Saturday to face UNC-Asheville at 1:00 pm and Hampton at 5:00 pm.
