Wofford vs. Southern Virginia Box Score
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s basketball team picked up a non-conference win over Southern Virginia on Wednesday by a score of 89-35.
The Terriers opened the contest with a 10-0 run and it wasn’t until the 16:48 mark that the Lady Knights scored their first basket, a layup from Kara Hiatt. Southern Virginia’s offense struggled while Wofford continued to score, pushing its lead to as many as 36 before heading into halftime with a 52-18 lead. The Lady Knights could not recover from the deficit in the second half, and the Terriers went on to claim the final 89-35 victory.
Sophomore Cara Joyner led the Lady Knights with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals. Freshman Carly Skinner and freshman Mariah Flake each added six points.
Junior Mahagony Williams paced the Terriers with 16 total points while also grabbing seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman Domi Gergely notched a career high nine points and led the team with a career best 10 rebounds, including six offensive rebounds. Freshman Mariah Masalin matched her career high 11 points in the win. Senior Natalie Gramblin led Wofford with seven assists, one shy of her career mark.
En route to scoring a season-high 89 points, the Terriers notched a season best .545 field goal percentage on a season-high 36 made shots out of 66 attempts. Wofford also grabbed a season best 21 steals, which ties for third in the single game record books.
With the win, Wofford improves to 4-15 on the season while Southern Virginia falls to 6-12. The Terriers will travel to Appalachian State on Saturday, January 29 as they take on the Mountaineers in a 3:00 p.m. game in the Holmes Center.
