SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Wofford’s Rachel Woodlee led the Terriers with 12 kills as the Terriers fell to University of Chattanooga 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-14) Saturday afternoon in a road Southern Conference match.
Woodlee’s 12 kills was a season-high for the sophomore. She was the only terrier with double-digit kills and double digit points as she had 12.5 total points. She added a block assists to her point total. Wendy Burnett and Arden Anderson added six kills, while Bekah Dorsey collected a double-double with 27 assists and ten digs. Reagan Styles led the team with 13 digs.
Wofford fell to 12-15 overall and 2-7 in the SoCon, while UTC improved to 9-16 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The first set went back and forth seeing 10 ties and five lead changes as both teams battled it out. Chattanooga grabbed a four-point advantage, 12-8, on a 7-3 run forcing a Wofford timeout. The Terriers responded and cut the deficit to one and then eventually tied the match at 17 on a Catelyn Amende ace and a Dorsey kill. The two teams alternated points until a Wofford ball handling error and a Moc Kill as they took the set, 27-25. Woodlee had five kills in the set for the Terriers.
Chattanooga rallied to a 8-4 lead in the second set following three-straight Terrier errors. The Mocs stretched their lead to four 22-18 then closed the set out with the 25-20 win to take a 2-0 set lead. Chattanooga had .400 hitting percentage compared Wofford’s .256.
In the third set, Wofford took a 4-0 lead but the Mocs rallied to tie it at four. Chattanooga broke an 8-8 tie to go on a 5-1 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Lady Mocs then went on a 7-0 rally as they closed out the set with a 25-14 win to earn the match sweep.
Chattanooga outhit the Terriers .306 to .194 in the match and won the battle at the night with six total blocks compared to Wofford’s three total blocks.
Wofford will take the court Sunday on the road at Samford Sunday to complete the weekend.
