SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s basketball team had five players score in double figures on the way to a 77-59 win over UNC Greensboro at Benjamin Johnson Arena on Saturday night. The Terriers shot a season-best 57.7% from the floor as twelve different players scored during the game.

Wofford is 17-8 on the season and 9-3 in the SoCon, while UNC Greensboro is 5-18 overall and 4-8 in the conference. The Terriers were led by Kevin Giltner with a season-high 14 points. Also in double figures were Junior Salters with 13 and Tim Johnson, Noah Dahlman and Jamar Diggs with ten points each. Tim Johnson had a team-high six rebounds. For the Spartans, Ben Stywall led all scorers with 18 points along with eight rebounds.

“I thought of the four games in this home stand this was the best that we have played,” said head coach Mike Young. “It was the best two halves, but not perfect by any stretch. There is room for improvement. I was pretty pleased with how we played. I thought we had a chance to go up 17 or 18 at the half, but didn’t handle some things very well. I am proud of our kids.”

The Terriers took a quick 3-0 lead, but the Spartans answered and took a 4-3 lead at 16:40. Wofford then went on an 11-0 run to regain the advantage for good and the score was 14-10 after a lay-up and free throw by Noah Dahlman at 13:04. UNC Greensboro got the lead back down to seven points at the ten-minute mark at 18-11, but could get no closer.

After a three by Junior Salters gave the Terriers a 29-15 lead with five minutes on the clock. Tim Johnson added a monster dunk at a minute later to go up 31-18. Wofford added two three-pointers by Kevin Giltner for a 37-22 advantage, however the Spartans would end the half on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 39-29 at the break.

Early in the second half, two three pointers from Junior Salters pushed the Wofford lead to 47-32. The Spartans got the lead down to eleven twice, with a chance to cut it to nine, but a quick 5-0 run got it back to 56-40 with 11:49 left on the clock. Back-to-back threes by Brad Loesing at the end of the shot clock and by Kevin Giltner gave the Terriers their largest lead of the night at 62-43 at the ten minute mark.

With Wofford up 68-50 with five minutes on the clock, the Spartans used a 7-1 run to make it a 69-57 game just a minute later. The Terriers scored the final five points in the contest for the 77-59 final score.

Wofford shot 57.7% from the floor and were 38.9% from three. From the free throw line, the Terriers are still struggling at 55.6%. UNC Greensboro was 34.5% overall and were 16.7% from behind the arc. They were 72.0% from the line. Rebounds were tied at 34 each.

With the victory, the Terriers have 17 wins on the season which is the most since moving to NCAA Division I. Noah Dahlman scored in double-figures for the 25th time this season. Wofford has won ten of their last eleven games. It was the first time Wofford had five players in double-figures since March 1, 2008 against The Citadel. The shooting percentage of 57.7% was the first time hitting over 55% since February 5, 2009 at Samford.

Having completed the four-game home stand with four double-digit wins, the Terriers are now on the road for the next four contests, beginning Wednesday night at 7:00 pm against Furman. The next home game is February 25 against the College of Charleston.
