Women's Basketball Prepares for Southern Conference Tournament

March 2, 2010

Tournament Bracket

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women’s basketball team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. on Thursday, March 4 to take part in the 2010 Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.

The Terriers finished the regular season with an 8-20 overall record and a 6-14 Southern Conference mark. Although tied with Elon, UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina in conference records, Wofford earned the seventh seed by virtue of its 5-1 record among the tied teams.

With the seventh seed, the highest the Terriers have earned since 2007, Wofford will face No. 10 Elon on Thursday in the opening game of the tournament, set for 1:00 p.m. in Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.

Wofford defeated Elon in both meetings between the two teams this year, and owns an 8-6 advantage in the overall series.

“Now that the regular season is over, we are excited to start the ‘new season,’ which for us is the Southern Conference tournament,” said head coach Edgar Farmer. “We finished the regular season on a strong note, which I think will propel us into the tournament. We are peaking at the right time and Thursday is going to be a great day.”

Should the Terriers win on Thursday, they will face second-seeded Samford in a 9:00 a.m. matchup on Friday, March 5. Visit Wofford’s Tourney Central page for more information.
