Women’s Volleyball Opens Southern Conference Play Friday

2010 Season Stats

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford College women’s volleyball team will open their 2010 Southern Conference slate Friday as they host Georgia Southern in Ben Johnson Arena.

The Terriers head into the match with a 10-7 record with the bulk of their play in four tournaments including the Wofford College Invitational.  They are 6-2 in three-set matches, 2-3 in four-set matches and 2-2 in five-set matches in 2010.

Freshman Amanda Liguori leads the Wofford offense with 143 kills and a 2.31 kills per set average, with senior Stacy Byrd on her heels with 140 kills and a 2.22 kills per set average. Byrd became the eighth player in Terrier history to break the 1,000 career mark.  She currently sits with 1,071 kills, which places her seventh in the Terrier career record book.  She needs just 228 kills to become the school’s all-time leader.  

Senior middle blocker Catelyn Amende has 131 kills, a 2.05 kills per set average and leads the team with a .275 hitting percentage.  She paces the squad with 61 total blocks (15 solo blocks and 46 block assists) and a .95 block per set average. Sophomore Arden Anderson has 13 solo blocks and 44 block assists for a .89 blocks per set average.

Libero and sophomore, Reagan Styles, leads the Terriers with 246 digs for a 3.90 digs per set average and with 19 service aces.  

Freshman setters, Bekah Dorsey and Tara Gough, have handed out 319 assists and 244 assists respectively.  Dorsey has a 4.98 assists per set average, while Gough has a 3.81 assists per set average.

Amende leads the team with 182 total points, while Liguori and Bryd have 170 points and 153 points respectively.

The Terriers will open SoCon play with a five-match homestand beginning with Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. Friday.  Wofford will host Davidson at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 28th, College of Charleston at 7 p.m. Friday, October 1st, The Citadel Saturday, October 2nd and rival Furman at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 6th during the stretch.

Wofford is a combined 33-99 since becoming Division I against those five opponents.
