Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team (13-8, 2-4) were swept 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-16) by the College of Charleston Cougars Saturday night in Southern Conference match in the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
In the first set, the Cougars took an early 8-5 lead, and held the three-point margin until 11-8. Wofford scored the next point on a solo block by Rachel Woodlee, but the College of Charleston took the next two points to put the score at 13-9. After a Cougar service error that made it 13-10, the College of Charleston mounted a 12-2 run to win the set 25-12.
The second set saw the Cougars break a tie at seven with a 5-1 run to take a 12-9 lead. Wofford pulled within 12-11 on a kill by Wendy Burnett, but the College of Charleston used a 4-1 run to take a 16-12 lead and control of the match. The Cougars would go on to take a 2-0 set advantage with a 25-16 set two win.
The third set started with the Cougars jumping out to an 8-1 lead as they led wire-to-wire to clinch the match with a 25-16 set three wins.
Arden Anderson, who had eight kills, led Wofford offensively. Woodlee and Wendy Burnett chipped in with six kills apiece. Tara Gough had ten assists, and Bekah Dorsey passed out nine assists. Reagan Styles picked up a match-high 20 digs.
The Cougars outhit the Terriers .301 to .038 and controlled the net as they had ten total team blocks compared to three for Wofford.
Wofford take to the road for a nonconference match at East Tennessee State University Tuesday at 7 p.m. for its next match.
