Wofford Swept by Furman Wednesday Night

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team was swept, 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) by the Furman Paladins on Wednesday night at the Benjamin Johnson Arena in a Southern Conference match.
 
In the opening set, the Paladins jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but the Terriers rallied to cut the lead to 5-4 aided by two Furman attack errors and a Rachel Woodlee kill.  Furman pushed a 7-6 lead, into a 13-7 lead with a 6-1 run.  Wofford was never able to get back in the set, as they fell 25-18.
 
The Terrier used kills from Amanda Liguori and Woodlee to pull out to a 3-1 lead, but the Paladins mounted a 4-0 run to take a 5-3 lead.  Wofford pulled within one point, 6-5 on a block by Wendy Burnett and Taylor Baird, and 7-6 on a Liguori kill, but Furman held off the Wofford comeback as they went ahead 12-9.  Wofford stayed within reach until the Paladins turned a 17-14 lead into a 25-16 set two win with an 8-2 run.
 
With the score knotted at eight in the third set, Furman exploded with an 8-0 run to take a 16-8 lead and went to take a 24-14 lead.  Wofford fought off five match points, to get within six points, 24-18, but fell 25-19.
 
Wofford was led by Woodlee, who tallied nine kills, while Liguori added seven kills.  Bekah Dorsey registered her eighth double-double of the season, with 17 assists and ten digs.  Reagan Styles collected a team-high 13 digs, and Burnett had three total blocks.
 
Wofford was outhit .333 to .135 and was aced ten times in the match.
 
Wofford (13-16, 2-10) will travel to The Citadel for its next match against the Bulldogs on Saturday at 4 p.m.
