SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Despite falling to Gardner-Webb 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-22) in their final match of the Spartan Classic, the Terriers ended the tournament 2-1 and were named co-champions with Rachel Woodlee taking home all-tournament honors.
In set one, Wofford fell behind 8-2, but would rally to tie the set at 13. Tara Gough served four consecutive points for the Terriers during the run while Woodlee and Arden had two kills apiece. The Terriers opened up an 17-14 lead, only to see the Runnin’ Bulldogs battle back and tie the set at 18. The two teams would trade points until the Terriers pulled ahead with a 24-22 lead, only to see Gardner-Webb fight off three set points and tie the match at 24. The Terriers fought off set point at 25-24 and 26-25 only to lose the set on two errors 28-26.
Set two saw the Runnin' Bulldogs lead wire-to-wire as they opened up an 11-6 lead and won the set 25-19. The Terriers hit -.071 in the set, while the Runnin’ Bulldogs hit .125.
The third set was a tightly contested match as the Terriers were within one point three times late in the set, but couldn’t extend the match as they fell 25-23.
Woodlee, for the second straight day, paced the Terriers with nine kills. Anderson added eight kills and five total blocks, three solo blocks and two block assists. Bekah Dorsey had 23 assists, while Reagan Styles collected 14 digs.
Wofford (10-4) will return to the hardwood September 22 at Georgia Southern for their Southern Conference opener.
